Certified Pilates Practitioner
I graduated from Otago Physiotherapy School in 1987 and worked in several sports medicine practices before doing my postgraduate education at the University of Otago. I graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 1995 and advanced my career working at Adidas Sports Medicine (now Axis Sports Medicine).
During this time, I treated many athletes from a variety of recreational and professional sports and I was a physio provider to the NZ Academy of Sport. I was also the lead physio to both the mens and womens Auckland Hockey teams over five years.
After moving to Wellington to pursue my interest in pilates for rehabilitation, I returned to Auckland in 2003 to set up my own private practice in Parnell where I combined my physio knowledge and pilates training to give clients unique, tailored exercise programmes. It was at this time that pilates was beginning to evolve as a reputable movement-based programme that acknowledged interactions between the brain and body, was more health focused, and promoted self management.
I now work from my private clinic that’s located on the One Tree Hill / Onehunga border. I also consult part time at Ascot Hospital providing physiotherapy to patients who have undergone joint replacement and spinal surgery.
Personally, I’ve always had a passion for sport and enjoy playing golf, tennis, paddle boarding and skiing. In the weekends you’ll often see me at the hockey turf supporting my son’s passion for hockey.
MY areas of interest
I enjoy treating young athletes and promoting early injury prevention strategies to help support a lifetime love of sport. I also enjoy treating recreational athletes of all ages.
I have also developed a special interest in treating nerve-related pain. Some common examples are: nerve entrapment which can occur with back pain (sciatica) or neck pain, carpal tunnel, nerve sensitivity at the elbow following tennis elbow or as a result of throwing sports, and at the ankle after a sprain or as a result of wearing poor footwear.
I enjoy the challenge of treating complex back and hip problems and neck and shoulder problems that require sound clinical reasoning skills and experience understanding the complexities of pain. Great results can be achieved through pain education, some hands on treatment and progression into movement based treatments that are dynamic and enjoyable, with the overall aim of returning you back to doing the things you love to do.
